Holistic orthodontics

Orthodontics is no longer to be understood as an isolated subject. Rather, in holistic orthodontics, one considers the musculoskeletal system from head to toe. A change in the bite can definitely affect the entire functional system of the body and vice versa. Recent studies have shown that many jaw and tooth misalignments and temporomandibular joint problems are related to the footbed, leg length differences, the pelvic position and the spine. The temporomandibular joint is considered to be the topmost joint in the spine. Thus there are also connections between the neuromuscular functions of the masticatory muscles and other muscles of the body. There are also connections between mouth and nose breathing, tongue position and the position of the jaw and teeth.

Our feet are of particular importance. They form the basis of our body and thus stabilize our entire posture. But even in childhood, there is an alarming number of foot misalignments, the effects of which extend from the spine to jaw problems. The consequence can be a wrong bite with all its accompanying symptoms. Long-term consequences in adulthood, for example neck and back pain and tension of all kinds, are then often preprogrammed.

Particularly in the case of children and adolescents, the connection between the holding and chewing apparatus must be taken into account. With suitable orthodontic measures, the growth of the head, face and jaw can still be influenced in adolescents. Jaw anomalies can thereby be corrected and, in cooperation with orthopedists and physiotherapists, the growth of the entire posture system can be steered in the right direction. With the three-dimensional spine and posture measurement, the overall posture can be assessed and orthopedic misalignments and posture errors can be identified.

Success through teamwork.
